Literature notes

Paperbridge was used on 2026-08-29 to search arXiv, Crossref, and OpenAlex for software visualization, architecture mining, and structural metrics.

The seed is informed by:

  • Borowski, Balis, and Orzechowski, “Graph Buddy — an interactive code dependency browsing and visualization tool,” VISSOFT 2022, DOI 10.1109/VISSOFT55257.2022.00023. Supports interactive, code-proximal dependency exploration.
  • Savidis and Savaki, “Software Architecture Mining from Source Code with Dependency Graph Clustering and Visualization,” 2022, DOI 10.5220/0010896800003124. Supports graph-derived architecture views and clustering as an architecture-recovery direction.
  • Krause, Hansen, and Hasselbring, “Live Visualization of Dynamic Software Cities with Heat Map Overlays,” arXiv 2109.14217. Supports the building/city metaphor and layering dynamic evidence over static structure.
  • Exman and Ohayon, “Software Modularity Coupling Resolution by the Laplacian of a Bipartite Dependency Graph,” 2019, DOI 10.5220/0007955802980305. Motivates explicit dependency-graph analysis for modularity.
  • Di Pompeo and Tucci, “Quality Attributes Optimization of Software Architecture: Research Challenges and Directions,” arXiv 2301.07516. Reinforces treating architecture quality as multi-objective rather than a single universal score.

Design consequence: Brick stores a general graph and exposes metric components. The visualization metaphor and the health indicator are consumers of evidence, not replacements for it. No paper above validates Brick's v0.1 weights; those weights remain explicitly experimental.

Call resolution (2026-09-22)

A Paperbridge search on 2026-09-22 (arXiv and OpenAlex) informed the C/C++ and Rust resolution work: Murphy and Notkin (TOSEM 1998), Grove et al. (OOPSLA 1997, TOPLAS 2001), Srivastava (LOPLAS 1992), Creager and van Antwerpen (stack graphs, arXiv:2211.01224), Cai and Zhang (OOPSLA 2023), Li et al. (Rupta, CC 2024), and LocAgent (ACL 2025). See cpp-rust-resolution.md for how each shaped the design.
